Graduated Learning: Life after College

Personal Finance, Parenting, and a dash of Science

Steph on Fitness April 22, 2012

I want to get in shape.  I think most people do.  So I’ve set a few goals for myself:

  • Complete a 5k among the top half of finishers
  • Be willing to wear a two-piece bathingsuit without wearing a coverup
  • Go to the gym more often
  • Eat better

The first two are very specific goals.  The second two basically define the lifestyle changes I need to make in order to make the first two possible.

Want to know more about what I’m up to?

You can see my latest blog posts about fitness.

Runs/walks for 2015:

  • Super Sunday, 5k, Cambridge, MA 2/1  Insanely cold, and I almost didn’t run it!  But ran the whole thing, with a friend running with me the whole way!
  • Walk for Hunger, 20-mile charity walk, Boston, MA 5/3

Runs/walks for 2014:

  • Spring Classic, 5k, Cambridge, MA 4/27 Not my best, but I finished!
  • Walk for Hunger, 20-mile walk, starting and ending in Boston, MA 5/4  Looking forward to signing up when they open registration in February.  And hoping to raise even more money than last year!  Completed all 20 miles, and raised over $3000!
  • Run Wild 5k at the Stone Zoo, 5k, Stoneham, MA 8/23 Hot day, but nice route, and we got to check out the Stone Zoo beforehand!
  • Fall Classic 5k, 5k, Cambridge, MA 9/21 Seems to be at my normal ~10:30/minute pace
  • Winter Classic 5k, 5k, Cambridge, MA 12/7  Also around my ~10:30/minute pace….but CRAZY COLD!

Runs/walks in 2013:

  • Spring Classic, 5k, Cambridge MA 4/28 (It’s a follow up to the Winter Classic!) I got a new 5k PR, under 32 minutes!
  • Walk For Hunger, 20-mile walk, starting and ending in Boston, MA.  5/5 Check out my donation page!
  • Tory Row 5k, 5k, Cambridge, MA. 6/23 Their slogan is “Like last year, only faster”.  While it wasn’t my best time (I’ll blame the heat), I did beat last year’s time!
  • Tavern to Tavern 5k, 5k.  Cambridge, MA 9/22.  Hoping the route is better as promised!  Another PR, almost a 10-minute mile.
  • Mercer County Turkey Trot, 5k, West Windsor, NJ 11/28.  My first Turkey Trot!  Another PR for me, just over 30 minutes!  And my sisters were there to cheer me on!  They made an awesome poster for me, too.
  • Winter Classic, 5k, Cambridge, MA 12/8.  Third year in a row doing this race. Cold day!  Not my best time, but better than last year’s time!

Runs/walks in 2012:

  • An Ras Mor, 5k, Cambridge, MA 3/25 Completed faster than my last 5k!
  • Walk For Hunger, 20-mile charity walk, Boston, MA 5/6 (I blogged about it)  Success!  I finished all 20 miles, and raised over $1k!
  • Tory Row 5k, 5k, Cambridge, MA 6/3 Completed, around the same time as An Ras Mor.
  • Tavern To Tavern 5k, 5k, Cambidge, MA 8/19 Not sure how accurate the timing was (No actual starting line) but my time was less than 35 minutes!  Which is good for me.  Fastest 5k time so far!
  • Winter Classic, 5k, Cambridge, MA 12/9 This was also under 35 minutes, and I’ve got a new PR!  Will continue my Couch to 5k training for my next 5k…Looking forward to 2013!
  • Participated in the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge as well.

I update my fitness activities/runs on dailymile:

Check out my workout history there!  We can even be dailymile friends 🙂

We can also be friends on Nike+ and Fitbit.

  1. Don’t feel too bad because Tory Row was my slowest 5k of the year. Too hot!
